About Dr. Kedar

Dr. Mordechai Kedar was born in Tel Aviv 65 years ago to a family which came to "Palshtina" from Poland in the 1930's, and he is the third of their three children. He Grew up in Tel Aviv, speaking Yiddish with his parents, but in high school he fell in love - along with 12 of his colleagues - with the Arabic teacher, a man who originally came from Germany, named Dov Iron. This group of students studied Arabic day and night, and due to their high level of Arabic they were all recruited in 1970 to the IDF Intelligence corps.
Mordechai served there 25 years, and was released in 1995 with the rank of lieutenant colonel, to start his academic career. He wrote his PhD dissertation on the political discourse and linguistics of the Syrian press, and his dissertation was published in English in 2005 under the title: Asad in Search of Legitimacy - Message and Rhetoric in the Syrian Press under Hafiz and Bashar". This title conveys the message that the Syrian regime has no legitimacy, as we all see today. Kedar pointed to this issue already 13 years ago.
His research and seminars include Islam; Islamic ideologies and movements; state, society and media in the Arab world; Gender issues in Islam and the Israeli Arab population.
Mastering Arabic, Dr. Kedar is a frequent guest in Arabic speaking media such as al-Jazeera, BBC Arabic, France 24 and i24 Arabic, in addition to his columns about the Middle East in IsraelNationalNews (Arutz 7), Yom le-Yom and other newspapers and publications.
Dr. Mordechai Kedar is a prominent speaker about the Middle East and for Israel in many states, in addition to his IDF reserve service as a volunteer.
Dr. Kedar is in his forth and last week of a month-long speaking tour in the US and Canada, in which he tries to portray for his audience the correct picture of the Middle East, a picture which is rarely presented in the mainstream media, due to considerations of political correctness.
